West Middle St. between Baltimore St. and Washington St. in Gettysburg remains closed to vehicles and pedestrians today.
The closure is the result of a multiple-alarm fire that blazed through the upper floors of a 3-story apartment building at 64 W. Middle St. last night.

One person was found deceased on the third floor and other tenants were displaced.
Gettysburg Police Chief Robert Glenny said he did not think the block would reopen until at least tomorrow afternoon. “The building is not structurally sound. We’re waiting until bracing can be applied to the building,” he said.
The fire was called in at 2:45 last night and the first fire truck arrived quickly. Many others followed soon after.
The fire was quickly extinguished and declared under control early this morning.
Adams County Coroner Francis Dutrow said an autopsy was scheduled for tomorrow but that official identification of the deceased would have to wait for DNA testing, which could take several weeks.
Glenny said the cause and origin of the fire is under investigation. State and local investigators have been on the scene during the day.
