As we welcome the month of March, we celebrate National Read Aloud Month—a time to embrace the joy of storytelling and the power of shared reading experiences. At the Adams County Library System, we see every day how reading aloud strengthens connections, sparks curiosity, and fosters a love of learning for all ages.
This month, we invite you to honor someone special in your life through our Honor and Memorial Bookplate program. By dedicating a book in their name, you not only celebrate their legacy but also encourage the gift of literacy in our community. Imagine a child discovering their new favorite book or a family reading aloud together, knowing that your donation made that moment possible.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our donors, patrons, and library supporters who make programs like these a reality. Your generosity fuels our mission and allows us to offer enriching experiences, provide essential resources, and keep our libraries vibrant and welcoming for everyone. Whether you support us through donations, bookplate dedications, or by simply spreading the word about our programs, you play a vital role in ensuring our library remains a cornerstone of learning and exploration.
This month also brings exciting programs to the Gettysburg branch, and we encourage you to join us! From March 10 through April 18, explore “Outside/Inside: Immigration, Migration, and Health Care in the United States.” This traveling exhibition, produced by the National Library of Medicine, examines the history of healthcare in the U.S.
Baseball fans won’t want to miss our special program, “One Patch of Grass in Harrisburg,” on March 25 at 6:00 PM. Sponsored by Barley Snyder, this event features Frankie Vemouski from the Harrisburg Senators, who will share the rich 135-year history of baseball on City Island—from Babe Ruth to Bryce Harper. It’s time to PLAY BALL! Registration is required, so be sure to reserve your spot.
Finally, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank our dedicated Adams County Library staff. Their passion, creativity, and hard work ensure that our community has access to knowledge, opportunities, and welcoming spaces. Without them, none of this would be possible.
Keep an eye out for the Spring edition of What’s Happening to discover even more programs at our six branch locations. We look forward to celebrating reading, history, and community with you this March—thank you for being a part of our story!
