The jungle is jumping with a jazzy beat in Disney’s The Jungle Book KIDS. May 8 – 11 – Gettysburg Film Festival @ Adams County Historical Society / Gettysburg Majestic Theater
The Gettysburg Film Festival will return with a focus on the legacy of World War II. Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Ken Burns will open the four-day festival, which will include a full slate of programs, discussions, and screenings. May 11 at 4:00 pm – Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra @ United Lutheran Seminary Chapel
Under the direction of conductor Ryan Kozak, the Chamber Orchestra performs their spring concert with solo violinist Peter Sirotin returning to dazzle us with one of the greatest concertos in the violin repertoire, the Sibelius Violin Concerto. The concert, sponsored by Music Gettysburg, opens with a short tone poem also composed by Sibelius entitled Valse Triste. The second half of the program will be Dvorak’s Symphony No. 5, evoking pastoral scenes and the beauty of nature. May 25 at 3:00 pm – Gettysburg Choral Society Concert @ United Lutheran Seminary Chapel
The Gettysburg Choral Society, under the direction of John McKay, will present a pair of patriotic concerts entitled “God Bless the USA” on Memorial Day weekend, the first being May 23 in Hanover and the second one in Gettysburg on May 25. The concerts will honor America as the chorus pays tribute to our armed services and gives thanks for those who, in the words of Abraham Lincoln, “gave the last full measure of devotion.” Some of the program’s favorites will include “The Battle Hymn of the Republic”, “God Bless America”, and “God Bless the USA”. Gail Jones has enjoyed a twenty-five-year career as a music educator in Pennsylvania and Maryland public schools as well as teaching music education methods at Gettysburg College for over a decade. She has also served as a guest conductor, French horn player, and private music instructor.
Gail has a deep appreciation for live music performances of all genres and encourages Adams County residents to attend the many concerts offered in our community.
