Mayor Jones Brings Fresh Energy to Arendtsville Borough

Arendtsville Mayor April Suarez Jones is bringing energy and a strong community focus to her new role, launching a series of initiatives designed to connect residents and make the borough more vibrant.

A longtime volunteer with the Arendtsville Community Fire Company, Jones is already helping organize major local events, including the Upper Adams 250th celebration set for June 13, 2026.

“Community involvement and relationship-building are at the heart of my goals as mayor,” Jones said. “I want families to know each other. One of my biggest hopes for Arendtsville is to see residents become more active and connected.”

Among her early efforts is a new food truck series aimed at bringing more dining options into town. Jones said many residents currently travel to Gettysburg or Hanover for variety, and she wants to create those opportunities locally while also supporting small businesses. Food trucks are already scheduled through the end of the year.

Updates and event details are available on her Facebook page, Mayor Arendtsville Borough, including the upcoming “Food Truck Frenzy” calendar beginning in April.

Jones has a track record of organizing community traditions. She founded the borough’s Christmas parade during the pandemic, allowing residents to safely enjoy the holiday spirit from their homes, and continues to help lead the event each year.

She is also behind the “Shirt Off Your Back” free shopping event, which returns April 25–26 at the Arendtsville Community Fire Company, 48 Pearl St. The event offers free clothing, handbags, jewelry, and household items, along with food vendors on site.

“It is for everyone — they can come and find a new outfit,” Jones said.

In addition to public events, Jones has begun welcoming new residents with baskets that include gift cards and information about local businesses, along with a map highlighting community resources.

She is also encouraging greater civic participation, urging residents — especially younger community members — to attend borough council meetings, held the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

With a full calendar and a focus on connection, Jones said she hopes her first year in office will strengthen community ties and inspire more residents to take an active role in shaping Arendtsville’s future.
