McKnight Brings Songs of Hope and History to Gettysburg

Award-winning singer, songwriter, and storyteller Andrew McKnight is set to perform at Battlefield Bed and Breakfast in Gettysburg on Sunday, March 23, at 4 p.m. McKnight’s engaging solo show combines music, humor, and heartfelt stories, captivating audiences with his rich blend of Appalachian folk, blues, and rustic ballads.

Hailing from northern Virginia’s Blue Ridge region, McKnight’s performances showcase his finely crafted songs and impressive flatpicking guitar skills. His music resonates with themes of family history, personal reflection, and connection, blending lighthearted moments with powerful collaborations, such as his work with combat veterans coping with PTSD.

McKnight’s latest album and book, Treasures in My Chest, dives deep into his own ancestry, recounting stories from his Civil War ancestor, Aretas Culver, to the struggles of Irish immigrants in County Down. Equipped with multiple guitars, a dobro, Native American flute, and an African hand drum, McKnight’s dynamic stage presence brings these narratives vividly to life.

Tickets are available only at the door, opening at 3:30 p.m., with a suggested $20 donation for admission. For additional information, contact the Unitarian Universalists of Gettysburg at uugettysburg@gmail.com or (717) 334-2920.

Since transitioning from an environmental engineering career in 1996, McKnight has toured extensively across America, sharing his musical stories. He also fronts Andrew McKnight & Beyond Borders, collaborating with founding Nitty Gritty Dirt Band member Les Thompson. McKnight’s discography includes five acclaimed solo albums and the live CD/DVD One Virginia Night.
