Memorial Day Free 5K is filling up quickly

Registration is filling up fast for the upcoming Highmark Wholecare Memorial Day Free 5K sponsored by WellSpan Health and Healthy Adams County.

Hundreds have already signed up for the annual event, which will be held Monday, May 25, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Wyndham Hotel in Gettysburg’s Gateway Complex off Routes 30 and 15. Participants interested in running or walking the event are encouraged to register soon, as organizers plan to cap the field at 400 participants.

The event is a professionally chip-timed race from start to finish, covering a 3.1-mile course with paved roads and some gentle hills. Medals will be awarded to all youth participants.

The race is open to both runners and walkers and can also be used as a make-up walk for Healthy Adams County programs.

Organizers also ask anyone who registers but later cannot attend to cancel their registration on the RunSignUp website. Doing so will open a spot for another participant.

The Memorial Day Free 5K, bookended by the Labor Day Free 5K, has become a popular annual community fitness event in Adams County, drawing participants of all ages.
