The defending Centennial Conference champion Gettysburg College men’s golf team was selected third by the coaches in the preseason poll released on Thursday, March 5.

Gettysburg scooped up 24 points to finish behind preseason favorite McDaniel College and Franklin & Marshall College. The Green Terror took home five first-place votes, while the Diplomats earned one first-place vote. Dickinson College earned the remaining first-place vote to finish one point behind Gettysburg in fourth.

Picked fourth in last season’s preseason ballot, Gettysburg made an improbable comeback to win its first Centennial crown in 17 years, erasing a 15-stroke deficit on the final day to overtake Swarthmore College. Danny Harcourt ’19 and Dane Sethre-Hofstad ’19 finished 1-2 individually as the Bullets finished with a six-stroke win overall.

Harcourt and Sethre-Hofstad paced Gettysburg to a record-setting campaign a year ago, but there’s been little letdown in the early part of the 2019-20 season despite their absence. Over nine rounds of competition in the fall, the team posted a scoring average of 304.3 – just off its program-record pace from last year. The Bullets closed the fall campaign with a flourish, claiming the team title at the Gettysburg Fall Invitational.

Gettysburg makes its spring debut at the Myrtle Beach Shootout on March 10.
