
KANSAS CITY, Mo. The duo of recent graduate Chris Jack (Reckange-Sur-Mess, Luxembourg/The Hun School of Princeton) and rising senior Jack Rooney (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) were both named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court. Additionally, the team was honored with the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award for the seventh year in a row.
In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows: academically a junior or senior and a varsity player; cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2020-21 academic year; at least one year at their current institution; and member of NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA Division I or II institution with NABC member coach.
The Team Academic Excellence Award is bestowed on teams that maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better for the 2020-21 season.
Jack played three seasons as a member of the Bullets squad. Due to the pandemic, the recent graduate was unable to compete in his final season but compiled 143 points and 120 rebounds in 61 career games at Gettysburg. The 6-6 forward came off the bench during the 2019-20 season to appear in 16 games and totaled 24 rebounds. Jack, who graduated with a mathematical economics degree, was a two-time Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll recipient.
Rooney has played in 50 careers games with six starts for Gettysburg. The 5-10 guard knocked down 18-of-40 (45 percent) three-pointers and made 32-of-70 (45.7 percent) from the field to set new career highs in 2019-20. In two playing seasons, Rooney has posted 198 points, 80 rebounds, and 41 assists. Rooney, an economics major, is also a two-time CC Academic Honor Roll recipient.
Gettysburg showed dramatic improvement in Head Coach BJ Dunne’s second season at the helm, increasing its win total by six games with a record of 12-13 during the 2019-20 season. The squad set a new program record for three-pointers made (200) and averaged over 72 points per game for the first time in 12 seasons.
