The Gettysburg College men’s lacrosse team was selected ninth by the coaches in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III Preseason Poll released Tuesday, Jan. 28.
 
Gettysburg cracked the top 10 with 190 points, edging out No. 10 Wesleyan (Conn.) University by five. Salisbury University claimed top honors despite only gaining three first-place votes with national runner-up Amherst College finishing second in the preseason ballot. The Mammoths claimed two first-place votes, while defending national champion Cabrini University scooped up nine first-place votes and finished third. Williams College and RIT rounded out the top five, the former tallying six first-place votes.  
 
The Centennial Conference was well-represented on the list with the Bullets leading a quartet of institutions. Franklin & Marshall College finished 12th, Ursinus College was 15th, and Dickinson College was 19th.
 
Gettysburg will square off with eight teams ranked among the preseason top 20 this season, including No. 2 Salisbury (Feb. 22), No. 18 Stevenson University (Feb. 29), No. 7 York College (March 4), No. 13 Washington and Lee (March 11), No. 6 Tufts (March 17), No. 15 Ursinus (March 21), No. 12 Franklin & Marshall (March 25), and No. 19 Dickinson (April 8).
 
The Bullets spent most of 2019 ranked among the top 10 teams in the country before settling at No. 13 in the final USILA poll. The team scored five wins over nationally-ranked programs and finished 14-5 overall. Gettysburg went 7-1 in conference competition and finished runner-up to Ursinus for the league crown. The team received a bid to the national tournament for the 26th time in program history.
 
Gettysburg kicks off the season at home against Messiah College on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 1 p.m.
