LANCASTER, Pa. The Gettysburg College men’s swimming team featured the Centennial Conference Swimmer of the Week for the second-straight week as senior Sam Nonemaker (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) earned the honor following standout performances in a pair of duals last week.
One week after senior Duncan Proxmire (McLean, Va./Langley) became the first weekly award winner for the Bullets, Nonemaker landed his third career weekly honor. The senior contributed to a total of seven individual and relay victories, while helping Gettysburg secure dual meet wins over McDaniel College (78-16) and the University of Mary Washington (170.5-91.5).
Nonemaker opened his week by helping the 200 medley relay score a victory in the opening race against McDaniel, swimming the breaststroke split as the team recorded a time of 1:37.39. He dominated his two individual events against the Green Terror, claiming the 200 free in 1:47.93 and winning the 100 breaststroke in 59.54.
The following afternoon against Mary Washington, Nonemaker put his full swimming arsenal on display with three individual wins and a relay victory. He swam 100 yards of breaststroke to help the 400 medley relay win by nearly eight seconds with a time of 3:31.64. Later in the meet, he turned in the only sub-minute time in the 100 breast (59.33) and sped his way to the wall first in the 100 free (47.85). Nonemaker capped his performance by showcasing all the strokes in the 200 IM and out-ran the field by nearly three seconds at 1:58.26.
Gettysburg closes its dual meet season at home against Swarthmore College on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 1 p.m. Nonemaker and his senior classmates will be recognized prior to the meet, which will be streamed live at https://www.centennialconference.tv/gettysburgbullets/. Fans are also welcome back inside the natatorium with strict masking rules in place.
