For the second consecutive year, a long leap into the sand at Roanoke College led to senior Ken Barnes (Edison, N.J./Westminster School (Conn.)) being named the Centennial Conference Field Athlete of the Week.
Barnes topped his indoor PR and moved closer to the program record with a third-place finish of 22 feet, one inch in the long jump at the Noke Elite Meet on Feb. 8. He tacked on 2.25 inches to his previous personal best with his first leap into the pit and finished just 2.75 short of the top spot in the field of 16.
The senior has finished among the top four in the long jump in each of the four meets so far this indoor season, including winning the title at the Susquehanna University Challenge on Feb. 1. He ranks second in program history in the event and is just 5.25 inches shy of record holder Travis Andrews ’16. Barnes was also named CC Field Athlete of the Week following a fourth-place effort in the long at last year’s Noke Elite Meet.
Barnes and the Bullets compete at the Susquehanna Invitational this Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
