
NEW ORLEANS The Gettysburg College men’s cross country team maintains a spot in the latest NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Region rankings, as released on Tuesday by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
After holding the No. 4 spot for two weeks, the Bullets drop to No. 7 in this week’s regional poll. Gettysburg finished with a combined team score of 156 to place fifth out of 12 teams that earned a team score in both the 4,000- and 8,000-meter races at the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational last Saturday. The Bullets scored 31 points in the 4K to finish second among 19 teams, and they posted a score of 125 in the 8K to come in 13th. Junior Connor Elliott (Media, Pa./Salesianum) paced the Orange and Blue in the 4K as he finished 10th out of 131 runners with a 12:55 time, while freshman Greg Himstreet (Chatham, N.J. Chatham) guided the Bullets in the 8K with a 35th-place showing, clocking 29:13.
Seven other Centennial Conference institutions join Gettysburg in the regional rankings. For the fourth consecutive week, Johns Hopkins University holds the top spot in the Mid-Atlantic region, with Dickinson College at No. 3 and Franklin & Marshall College at No. 8. Haverford College marked its fourth-straight top spot in the Metro Region followed, by Swarthmore College (No. 6), Ursinus College (No. 8), and Muhlenberg College (No. 10).
Gettysburg returns to action this Saturday at the Mike Woods Invite, hosted by SUNY Geneseo.
