Game Summary

  • Second Quarter: The Bullets found a way past the Mule keeper in the second quarter. Bertrando fired an initial shot that bounced of Cartagena’s pads right to Fraiman, who slipped the ball past the goalie for the game’s first goal at 22:35. Just over a minute later, Besselman stopped a penalty stroke by Maleah Hess, marking the Gettysburg goalie’s second-straight game with a penalty save.
  • Third Quarter: Muhlenberg tied the game in the early minutes of the second half. Webber slipped a through pass down the middle of the field to a streaking Holson, who touched it past Besselman at 34:44. Cartagena came up with a pair of saves in the final 80 seconds to preserve the deadlock.
  • Fourth Quarter: Cartagena stopped the Bullets time-after-time in the final period of regulation, racking up six of her game-high 15 saves in the period. All of her saves came in the final eight minutes of the contest, including kicking away an attempt by senior Lauren Beccaria (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) with less than two minutes to go.
  • Overtime: Gettysburg continued to attack the cage in the extra session, putting four of its seven shots on goal. Cartagena stonewalled a pair of attempts by Bertrando and Vadinsky in the first 3:18. In the 66th minute, Beccaria went 1-on-1 with the Mule goalie and was denied twice in a span of five seconds. The Bullets picked up a green card in the 67th minute and the Mules were quick to take advantage of the extra player with Webber stealing a pass around midfield and breaking down the right side of the field. She evaded the defense and pushed the ball past Besselman for the game-winner at 67:08.
