National Night Out will feature multiple Adams County locations

Adams County residents will have multiple opportunities to participate in National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5, an annual event focused on strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the community.

National Night Out is observed nationwide on the first Tuesday of August and aims to promote safer neighborhoods through partnerships between police and the community. This year, Collaborating for Youth (CFY) will host activities at three locations: Gettysburg REC Park, Cumberland Township, and Carroll Valley.

The events provide families with an opportunity to meet local police officers, firefighters, and first responders while enjoying free, family-friendly activities. The gatherings typically include food, music, games, and demonstrations highlighting safety and community programs. Organizers say the events aim to create positive interactions and build trust between residents and public safety officials.

National Night Out has evolved from a small-scale block party concept in the 1980s to a nationwide initiative that involves millions of participants each year. Adams County’s involvement reflects ongoing efforts to support youth programs, encourage community engagement, and promote a shared sense of responsibility for neighborhood safety.

CFY, the Adams County nonprofit focused on youth development and community wellness, will be on hand at each location to share resources and connect residents with programs that benefit young people and families. Collaborating For Youth (CFY) was born out of a desire on the part of community residents and leaders to make community-wide changes that would improve the lives and futures of youth in Adams County. A coalition was formed, comprising 20 to 30 members, including schools, churches, government agencies, not-for-profits, healthcare organizations, parents, and interested citizens.
