New from the Gettysburg Rec Park

Greetings All.

Although the the Memorial Day summerfest was washed out by a pouring rain, it’s been rescheduled for the Labor Day weekend. We’ll keep you informed.

GARA operates the Gettysburg Rec Park.

A Gettysburg Fourth is quickly approaching and we have some great entertainment and activities to share. The Adams County Farmers Market will be doing their usual thing early in the morning until approximately 1 p.m. At 4 p.m. sharp the Willy’s will be performing on the newly renovated amphitheater stage followed by the popular group of baby boomers “Great Train Robbery” starting at 6 p.m. The featured band for the day will be the ninety member Army Field Band from Fort Meade Md. I understand they are really terrific! There’s not enough room for them on the stage so they will be performing on the basketball court at the North end of the park.

Throughout the afternoon and evening everyone can enjoy more than twenty-five food and drink vendors. There will be a handful of vendors with alcoholic beverages and we ask everyone to drink responsibly.

Finally, the night will conclude with an extended fireworks display starting at approximately 9:15 p.m. I understand they have some special fireworks to WOW us with this year. Many thanks to Destination Gettysburg for sponsoring the fireworks again this year!

We are asking for a $5 per car CASH donation to the Rec Park to assist in defraying some of the cost. We are expecting a big crowd and we really want everyone to have a great time, but also a fun and relaxing time to celebrate the 250th birthday of our great country.

On behalf of the GARA board and staff, Gettysburg Borough, and Cumberland Township, we wish everyone a very happy Gettysburg 4th!!

With much anticipation……. Director Al Moyer
