Low Turnout in the Primary Election
Less than 20 percent of registered voters in Gettysburg Borough cast votes in last Tuesday’s primary election. The percentage was slightly higher for Republicans than for Democrats.
Gettysburg Borough Celebrates its Sustainable Community Designation
The borough council will have a reception at its 7 p.m. workshop on Tuesday May 28th to celebrate the borough’s designation as an environmentally sustainable community. The public is invited.
Gettysburg Borough to Discuss Banning Plastic Bags
The borough council will discuss a petition to ban the use of plastic bags at its 7 p.m. workshop on Tuesday May 28th. The public is invited to comment.
The Gettysburg Green Gathering is Next Saturday
The seventh annual Gettysburg Green Gathering will take place Saturday June 1 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Gettysburg rec park.
A variety of performers will be at the event, and scholarships will be awarded to area students pursuing environmental studies.
The gathering focuses on the environment and what each one of us can do to help be “part of the solution not the pollution!”
Funds raised at the event are donated to local environmental groups including the Land Conservancy of Adams County and Strawberry Hill Nature Preserve.
Food Vendors include Bakewell Farm, Uncle Moe’s, Mr. G’s, vanGo, and 82 Café.
Educators include the Land Conservancy, Adams Co. Master Gardeners, Adams Couny Arts Council, Strawberry Hill, South Mountain Audubon Society, Watershed Alliance of Adams County, Gleaning Project / SCCAP, Gettysburg Nature Alliance, Gettysburg Borough Recycling, The Monarch Alliance, Gettysburg Rising, Citizens Climate Lobby, Green Gettysburg, Healthy Adams Bicycle/Pedestrian Inc., Historic Gettysburg Adams County.
The event is child friendly, and wildlife expert Jack Hubley from WGAL Channel 8’s “Wild Neighbors” will present “Critters beyond your back door.”
Other performers include music by Neil and Shannon and Grammy nominee Ray Owen and magic by River Barry.
Free Welcome to Medicare Seminar Scheduled
A free Welcome to Medicare Seminar will be held on Tuesday, June 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Adams County Office for Aging Inc., 318 W. Middle St., Gettysburg.
The seminar will explain insurance options for Medicare beneficiaries and provide education about coverage choices.
Topics to be covered include Medicare benefits, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, and Medicare Advantage Plans.
