November 1 at 8 pm – Gettysburg College Choir Concert   Schmucker Recital Hall

November 1 at 7 pm – Poetry First Friday    Ragged Edge Coffee House  

Featured poets this month are Jim Daniels and Kristin Kovacic from Pittsburgh. Mr. Daniels has authored over thirty collections of poetry in addition to works of fiction, screenplays, and editing anthologies. Ms. Kovacic’s essays have won numerous prizes and she has taught nonfiction writing at every level.  Pick up a beverage and a baked good downstairs, then head upstairs for an open mic at 7 followed by the reading.   www.theraggededgecoffeehouse.com

November 1 from 5-7 pm – Art Exhibit Opening  Adams County Arts Council

November 1 at 7:30 pm – Halloween Classics: The Nightmare Before Christmas  Gettysburg Majestic Theater

Jack Skellington, king of Halloween Town, discovers Christmas Town, but his attempts to bring Christmas to his home causes confusion.  Bored with the same old scare-and-scream routine, Pumpkin King Jack longs to spread the joy of Christmas. But his merry mission puts Santa in jeopardy and creates a nightmare for good little boys and girls everywhere. November 8 -17 – Standing Ovations   Gettysburg Community Theatre

November 9 at 8 pm – Sunderman Conservatory Jazz Ensemble   Gettysburg Majestic Theater

November 10 at 4 pm – Tempesta di Mare  United Lutheran Seminary  

This premiere Baroque ensemble from Philadelphia is brought to us by Music, Gettysburg! The ensemble performs self-led – no conductor – just as they did when the music was new.  To experience Tempesta is to experience discovery of the Baroque composers both famous and forgotten, in new ways. November 11 at 12 and 7 pm – Art: A Cinematic Experience   Gettysburg Majestic Theater 

Exhibition on Screen: Van Gogh – Poets and Lovers allows us to reexamine and better understand this iconic artist. Focusing on Van Gogh’s unique creative process, this film explores the artist’s years in the south of France where he revolutionized his style.  Made in close collaboration with the National Gallery in London, which is hosting the UK’s biggest ever Van Gogh exhibition.   Tickets are $18 and $10 for students with ID.  www.gettysburgmajestic.org

November 12 at 7:30 pm – Lorraine Min, Piano and Terence Tam, Violin        St. James Lutheran Church

Gettysburg Community Concert Association presents this virtuosic duo who have performed around the world at many of the premier concert halls and with the finest international orchestras. Do not miss the opportunity to hear these artists right here. November 15 at 8 pm – Wind Symphony Concert    Gettysburg Majestic Theater     

Sunderman Conservatory wind and percussion players will perform their autumn concert under the baton of Dr. Russell McCutcheon.  The concert will showcase a diverse and exciting program, featuring a special performance by Master Sergeant Aaron Scott, clarinetist from the US Army Band “Pershing’s Own.” Scott will perform Scott McAllister’s X Concerto, a piece that is heavily influenced by grunge music. The Wind Symphony will also present the world premiere of Cosmos, composed and conducted by senior music education major Penelope Michua-Brooks.  Mendelssohn’s Overture for Woodwinds, Opus 24 and Bernstein’s  Slava! will round out the program. November 17 at 4 pm – Sunderman Goes Russian  United Lutheran Seminary

November 17 at 5 pm – Gettysburg Children’s Choir  Christ Lutheran Church     

Under the direction of Dr. Kyle Weary, the Gettysburg Children’s Choir presents a delightful program of music featuring both the Children’s Choir and The Chorale.  While admission is free, a freewill offering is gratefully accepted.   www.gettysburgcc.org

November 18 at 12 pm – Notes at Noon  Musselman Library, Gettysburg College 

The Sunderman Woodwind Quintet presents a program of “Faculty Celebrations and Student Collaborations!” The faculty quintet will be joined by students as featured performers on several pieces during the concert. November 22 at 8 pm – Symphony Orchestra Concert   Gettysburg Majestic Theater  

Celebrate the vibrant sounds and rhythms of Latin American musical traditions with the Sunderman Conservatory Symphony under the baton of Dr. Cesar Leal.  The program brings together beloved classics, popular canciones, and new works, showcasing boleros, dances, and new compositions. Featured pieces include Rhythm Dances by Brian Balmages, Estampas by Jose Elizondo, Danza No. 4 by Ludovic Lamothe, the timeless bolero Besame Mucho by Consuelo Velazquez, and Estrallita by Manuel Ponce.  Tickets are $5 at the door and free admission with a college ID.      www.gettysburgmajestic.org

November 23 and 24, 10 am to 5 pm – Foothills Artists Studio Tour                                              

For the 17th year, the Foothill Artists open their studios to share with you their art, which has been inspired by the natural beauty of the area. Come, visit, meet the artists, and enjoy the rich range of painting, pottery, photography, printmaking, woodworking, jewelry, enamels, fiber, and textile arts. Gail Jones has enjoyed a twenty-five-year career as a music educator in Pennsylvania and Maryland public schools as well as teaching music education methods at Gettysburg College for over a decade. She has also served as a guest conductor, French horn player, and private music instructor.

Gail has a deep appreciation for live music performances of all genres and encourages Adams County residents to attend the many concerts offered in our community.
