On May 10, 2025, Agnes Scheller left this earthly realm at the age of 85, embarking on her final journey home to receive a rich welcome into the Kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Agnes was born on February 20, 1940, in Bakonyjákó, Hungary, the youngest of three children born to the late Ignatz and Maria Scheller. She is preceded in death by her sister, Mary Schalk of Haledon, New Jersey, and her brother, Vincent Scheller of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Agnes grew up in the shadows of World War II and left Hungary in 1948, ultimately settling with her family in a refugee camp in West Germany. In 1952, they emigrated to the United States through Ellis Island, and she proudly earned her U.S. citizenship in 1958. That same year, she graduated from Central High School in Paterson, New Jersey, and began working at the Law Office of Harry Zax. In 1962, she married her soulmate, Andor (Andy) Scheller, and dedicated herself to raising their three children.
She built a home and raised her family across four different communities, ultimately settling in Baytown, Texas. Agnes thrived in each new place, finding and nurturing community wherever she lived. After raising her family, she completed continuing education courses at The Pennsylvania State University and later worked part-time as a realtor and certified tax preparer—a role she maintained until her passing.
Deeply devoted to her church and community, Agnes embraced numerous leadership roles throughout her life. She served as president of several school PTAs, was a Brownie, Girl Scout, and Cub Scout leader, and a long-time member of the Finance Committee at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She also generously volunteered as a pro bono tax preparer during tax season and engaged in many other community endeavors. All who knew her enjoyed her crepes and countless cakes and pastries, and her joyful desire to feed everyone and enthusiastically share recipes.
Agnes found joy in music and movement throughout her life. From dancing polkas in Paterson dance halls to promenading to the Paul Jones in Gettysburg, and countless wedding receptions, she was always eager to take to the floor. Her love of dancing was matched only by her near lifelong passion for the performing arts. She delighted in attending musicals and live theater in New York City and Houston, sharing these experiences with family and friends. Her enthusiasm for music and dance was infectious, and she treasured the happiness these moments brought to her and those around her.
Agnes was also a two-time breast cancer survivor and supported her fellow survivors and foundations in numerous ways.
Travel was a cherished part of life for Agnes and Andy. In retirement, they explored 95 countries across all seven continents, balancing their global adventures with relaxing days by the pool at their Texas home.
She took great joy in watching her grandchildren grow and flourish. She was often found outside, tending tirelessly to her immaculate yard and flower beds.
Agnes is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 63 years, Andy; her son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Suzanne Scheller; her daughter, Nora Scheller; her daughter and son-in-law, Tracy Scheller and David Oaten; and her six grandchildren: Anthony, Christopher, Arianne, Madison, Elyse, and Ella.
We find comfort in knowing that she is at peace with her Savior and reunited with the loved ones she had long missed. There are no words to express the hole she leaves in the hearts of those who loved her.
