Almeda May Sirko, 98 of Cape Coral, Florida, formerly of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania passed away on October 18, 2025. She was born on July 2, 1927 in Nanty Glo, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Harold Jessie and Dillie Viola (Paul) Mitchell. Almeda was predeceased by her husband, Ted; daughter-in-law, Karen J. Sirko; her parents; stepfather, Ernest Leroy Mitchell; brother, Elmer L. “Buck” Mitchell; sisters: Fern V. McCullough and Ernestine G. Franjic; brothers-in-law: Dale D. Stevens and Stanley Franjic and sister-in-law, Florine Hamilton.
Upon graduating high school, Almeda answered the call to serve her country during WWII by joining the US Cadet Nurse Corp and earning her RN diploma. After the war, Almeda married the boy next door and the love of her life, Theodore “Ted” Sirko. They shared a long and loving life together, married for nearly 70 years. Almeda worked as a registered nurse in hospitals and private practice prior to becoming a full-time wife, homemaker, mom, and grandma, as well as a part-time volunteer nurse and EMT. She is fondly remembered as a talented baker of delicious breads, pies and cookies and she took great pride in canning, freezing and pickling their annual garden harvest. Almeda was a long-time member of the Gettysburg Walking Club. She loved gardening, reading, the needle arts, and pizza. Most of all, Almeda loved her family and her Lord, Jesus Christ.

Almeda is survived by her son, Theodore J. Sirko; daughter, Susan L. (Brian) Underwood; grandchildren: Alexander F. (Jasmine) Sirko, Catherine J. (Ryan Storino) Sirko, Craig S. (former wife Danielle M.) Underwood and Glen A. (Teresa) Underwood; great-grandchildren: Jasmine, Kirnan, Landon, Sophia, Benjamin, LJ, and Robert; sister, Elsie C. Stevens; brother, Harold R. (Joyce) Mitchell; Sisters-in-law: Margaret Sirko and Mildred Sirko; many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews,s and countless friends.
Funeral services will be private at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider an honorary contribution to VITAS Community Connection, Fort Myers, Florida or to your favorite charity.
