Obituary: Anna Mae Cook

Anna Mae Cook, age 84 of York Springs, passed away August 15, 2025, at SpiriTrust Lutheran- the Village at Gettysburg. She was born July 26, 1941, in Carlisle to the late George P., Jr. and Jeannette L. (Snyder) Stambaugh.

Anna was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, a life-member of the York Springs Fire Company, a member of the Conewago Chapter 532 Order of Eastern Star, and was a former Girl Scout leader. As a caregiver for her community, she was a cook for York Springs Elementary School, an LPN at Forest Park Nursing Home in Carlisle, and retired from WellSpan Adams-Cumberland Medical Center in 2006. She loved going to the beach, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, David H. Cook; daughters, Candra N. Bretzman and husband, Roy of Aspers and Sandra K, Starner and husband, Jeff of New Oxford; son, David P. Cook and wife, Tracey of East Berlin; grandchildren, David P. Cook, Jr. and wife, Miranda, Zachery D. Starner and wife, Chelsea, BreAnna J. Barry and husband, Zachery, Joseph W. Starner and Shawney J. Cook; great-grandchildren, Cameron Groomes, Sophia Cook, June Barry and Anna Barry and sisters, Emme L. Stock and husband, Larry of East Berlin and Helen L. Townsend of Camp Hill. Anna was preceded in death by her brother, Spencer S. Stambaugh.

Professional services have been entrusted to Dugan Funeral and Cremation, Ltd, 111 S. Main Street, Bendersville. At Anna’s request, there will be no viewing. Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life service at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 216 Main Street, York Springs, PA 17372, on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 11am. A visitation will be held from 10 am until the time of the service.
