Obituary: Barbara Ann Six

Barbara Ann (Koontz) Six, 89, of Taneytown, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Lorien Nursing Home in Taneytown. She was the devoted wife of Marlin C. Six for 60 years, who passed away in 2014.

Barbara was born on June 9, 1936, in Frederick County to the late Elwood and Irene (Overholtzer) Koontz. She retired from Lion Brothers in Taneytown.

In addition to being predeceased by her husband, she was also predeceased by an infant daughter, Betty Jo Six, and two brothers, Carroll Koontz of Gettysburg and Larry Koontz of North Carolina.

She is survived by her sons: Barry L. Six (Matea) of Florida, Brett E. Six (Susan) of Taneytown; daughters: Belinda K. Cole (John) of Taneytown, Bobbi Jo Shuey (Douglas) of Carroll Valley; sisters: Sylvia Gross of Taneytown, Judy Baer of Florida; brother Donald Koontz of Harney; eight grandchildren and four great-grandsons.

Barbara was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church, Harney Volunteer Fire Co. Auxiliary, and a Lifetime member of the Auxiliary VFW Post #6918 all of Harney, MD. She was also a member of the American Legion Post #120, Hesson-Snyder Auxiliary of Taneytown, MD. Her devotion to community earned her the honor of being recognized as a Volunteer of the Year for Carroll County.

Barbara was known for her cooking and baking talent. She hosted wonderful dinners for family and always had a meal ready for friends going through hardships. She enjoyed children, but especially adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a strong woman with a generous, gentle heart.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 14, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Monday, September 15, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Little’s Funeral Home in Littlestown. The funeral service will be on Monday, September 15, at Little’s Funeral Home in Littlestown at 11:00 AM. Internment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Gettysburg.
