Obituary: Bennie Rice

Bennie Rice, 73, of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Carolyn’s Hospice House. Born on May 17, 1953, in Marshallville, Georgia, Bennie was the son of the late Leroy Rice, Sr. and Mary Lizzie (Bishop) Rice. He was the widower of Eugenia Mae Rice, who passed away in March of 2024.

Bennie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before beginning a career with Dickinson College in the maintenance department. He was known as a hardworking, dependable man who took pride in providing for his family. Outside of work, Bennie enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and rarely missed a game. He also loved watching professional wrestling and could always be found cheering on his favorite wrestlers. One of his greatest companions was his beloved Chihuahua, Dallas, who brought him comfort, laughter, and unconditional love. Bennie and his deceased wife, Eugenia, had a very happy marriage and never spent time apart.

More than anything, Bennie loved his family. His greatest joy came from spending time with his children and especially his five cherished grandchildren, who brought endless happiness to his life: Sammy Thomas, Labella Thomas, Harry Thomas III, Noah Thomas, and Israel Thomas. The love he had for his family was unwavering, and the memories they shared will be treasured forever. Bennie is survived by his children, Eugenia Mae Thomas of Mechanicsburg, Harry Thomas II of Mechanicsburg, and Pamela Maria Disbrow of Etters; his five beloved grandchildren; many brothers; and numerous extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly. In addition to his parents and wife, Bennie was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we find comfort knowing that his love, strength, and the memories he created will remain with us always. His kindness, laughter, and devotion to those he loved will never be forgotten.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory.
