Betty Mae Salome Piper, 93 of Fairfield, PA passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at The Gettysburg Hospital. Born in Knoxville, Maryland on February 11, 1931, she was the daughter of the late W. Blessing N. Gertrude Boyer. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Douglas R. Piper, Sr. who died in 1992. She was a 1948 graduate of Brunswick High School. Betty and her late husband were lifelong farmers, first in the Middletown, Maryland area and then in 1961 moved their farming skills to the Fairfield, PA area where she was a farmer/homemaker raising their five children. She was a member of the St. John’s Reform Church in Sabillasville, MD and was known for “Green Thumb” gardening skills, raising all different kinds of beautiful flowers. Betty was the matriarch of her ever expanding family, her five children, D. Ray Piper, Jr. (Barbara) of Fairfield, Brenda Piper Geesaman (Donald) of Fairfield, Wayne Piper of North Carolina, Susan Piper Hurley of Fairfield and Dale Piper (Annette) of Fairfield, sixteen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, twelve great-great grandchildren with one on the way and a sister-in-law, Joan Boyer of Knoxville, MD. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jennifer Geesaman Roth, two brothers, Eugene Boyer and Bruce Boyer and his wife Shirley, daughter-in-law, Elaine Gladhill Piper and a son-in-law, Gary Hurley. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the Monahan Funeral Home in Fairfield, PA with Rev. Janet I. Comings, officiating. Interment will follow the services in Jacob’s Church Cemetery, Fairfield. A Viewing will be held at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, December 13, 2024.
