Obituary: Birdie Mae Bryan

Birdie Mae Bryan, 95 of Gettysburg, PA, peacefully passed away at her home on Sunday, May 11, 2025. Birdie was born in Schuylkill Haven, PA, on August 3, 1929, daughter of the late Paul & Sarah (Funt) Plank. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold C. “Pappy” Bryan, who died in 2004. Birdie for many years worked at the former Gettysburg Shoe Co. and retired after several years from Hadco Lighting Co. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and puzzles, but her true love was bowling, Birdie, starting in 1959 and for the next 62 years was an avid bowler in travel leagues and on her home ally, Edgewood Lanes in Gettysburg.

Birdie is survived by four children, Kenneth Wetzel, Jr. of McKnightstown, PA, Elizabeth Mummert of Thomasville, PA, Becky Weikert and Carl Wetzel both of Gettysburg, 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Anna Nye, a son, Charles Wetzel, a grandson, David Mummert, Jr., and five siblings, Ruth Kelley, Paul Plank, Jr., Eleanor Hoffman, Charles Plank, and Mary Shultz. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Gettysburg. The Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg is assisting the family with the arrangements.
