Obituary: Burnell R. Dehoff

Burnell R. Dehoff, 89, of Gettysburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. He was born in Littlestown, PA, on August 31, 1936, son of the late Herman & Hazel (Koontz) Dehoff. Burnell is survived by his wife of 69 years, Martha J. (Hartzel) Dehoff. He was a 1954 graduate of Biglerville High School, where he received the Dick Walton Athletic Award for accomplishments in basketball, football, baseball, and track. Burnell graduated from Gettysburg College, where he participated in the ROTC Program, in 1958.

Burnell worked in the food processing industry for 42 years. In 1977, he was named General Production Manager of Musselman Fruit Products of Pet Incorporated, which later became Knouse Foods. He retired as Director of Production Planning in 2000.

Burnell was a loving and kind individual to his family and friends. Life was centered around his children’s and grandchildren’s activities, supporting their educational and athletic endeavors. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends, and found family trips to the beach very rewarding. He enjoyed playing tennis and golf.

Burnell was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Gettysburg. He volunteered with church projects, Habitat for Humanity, and served on the Board of Homewood at Plum Creek in Hanover, PA.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Bradley Dehoff and his wife Patricia, Lori Dehoff Grim and her husband Jackson, and Jeffrey Dehoff. Burnell was a proud grandfather of his six grandchildren: Chad, Ryan, Brooks, Brock, Abby, and Bree, and also greatly enjoyed his seven great-grandchildren: Carson, Calvin, Jacob, Brody, Mason, Ryder, and Emma. He was predeceased by his sister and her husband, Beatrice and Bob Sanders.

Funeral services will be private, per Burnell’s request. Memorials in his name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105) and/or Trinity United Church of Christ, Gettysburg.
