Catharine M. Gebhart, 86, of New Oxford, PA, died Saturday afternoon, June 28, 2025, at the Brethren Home Community, New Oxford, PA.
Born April 12, 1939, in York, PA, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Catharine (Snyder) Hess. She was the loving wife to Donald R. Gebhart, who passed December 22, 2008.
Catharine worked for many years as a secretary at Emeco in Hanover. Her favorite job came after retirement, greeting clients at Children’s Aide Society, a non-profit counseling center where “Miss Kay” was a source of kindness to all who entered their doors.
Kay enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and canning, but her greatest love was spending time with her four grandchildren; she often hosted overnight slumber parties, creating fond memories they will forever hold in their hearts.
Despite her many medical struggles over the last 25 years, Kay will best be remembered for her kind spirit and positive attitude. No matter what came her way, her favorite saying of “I’m pretty lucky” makes us all realize we were the lucky ones to have known and loved her.
Catharine is survived by her two daughters, Diane Smith and her husband Jim, of Hanover, PA, Donna Jarvis, of New Oxford, PA, four grandchildren, Megan Utz and her husband Billy, Mitchell Smith, Carly Basom and her husband Tyler, Dalton Jarvis, and her brother, Richard Hess.
