‘Catherine E. Slaybaugh, 97, Gettysburg, PA passed away Thursday, February 6, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family.She was born July 15, 1927 in Gettysburg, PA the daughter of the late Melvin and Catherine Wilkinson Speelman. Her husband of 45 years, George E. Slaybaugh Jr. died in 2007. She was the oldest of 12 children and mother of 7.Ms. Slaybaugh was a member of Salem Gulden’s United Methodist Church in Gettysburg since 1948. For many years she worked at the Carroll Shoe Company in Littlestown, PA and later at Keystone Ridgeway in Gettysburg, PA, and Penn Quality Eggs. Catherine loved sewing and making quilts for her family members along with other items. She was a lifelong gardener; growing and canning vegetables for her family for years. Catherine loved telling everyone the stories of her childhood growing up on the farms. Catherine was creative in many ways, always entertaining her children and grandchildren. Most of all she loved to spend time with her family hosting many backyard picnics and holiday parties. She never missed an opportunity to be with the family. She was greatly loved by all her extensive family.Catherine is survived by six children; David E. Slaybaugh and his wife Lolivic of Littlestown, PA, Roger F. Slaybaugh of Newville, PA, Timothy L. Slaybaugh of Gettysburg, PA, Pamela J. Riley and her husband Greg of Gardners, PA, James P. “Rick” Slaybaugh and his wife Charlene of Thurmont, MD, Melissa A. Meyer of Fairfield, PA, 25 grandchildren; Jessica Tawney, Julie Benson, Joanne Bigham, Catherine Minnick, Rebecca Minnick, Thomas Slaybaugh, Wesley Slaybaugh, Harley Slaybaugh, Kelly Little, Diane Beasley, Roger L. Slaybaugh, Bradley Beaton, Melissa LeLacheur, Jenna-Leigh Beaton, Robert “Travis” Beaton, Bradley Slaybaugh, Ashley Slaybaugh, Bobbi Jo Felts, Marissa Riley, Raymond Tyler, Janel Corkell, Jana Skaudis, Jason Romlein, Matthew Meyer, Dallas Meyer, 27 great-grandchildren; Moses Tawney, Samson Tawney, Oliver Bigham, Elliott Bigham, Thomas Slaybaugh, II, Kaylee Holcomb, Alexis Slaybaugh, Raleigh Slaybaugh, Wesley Slaybaugh, II, Gwyneth McDannel, Hope Beasley, Kody Beasley, Benjamin Beasley, Faith Beasley, Claire Beaton, Lauren Beaton, Shayla Beaton, Ryan LeLacheur, Emma Neil, Abigail Neil, Tyler Felts, Cameron Freeman, Brooke Freeman, Wyatt Freeman, Robert “Blaze” Corkell, Nina Skaudis, Winnie Meyer, and arriving soon, Daxton Meyer, 2 great-great-grandchildren; Nathaniel Myers, Markus Beasley, 3 sisters; June Shultz of Hanover, PA, Barbara Spicer of Gettysburg, PA, Nadine Carbaugh of McConnellsburg, PA, a son-in-law, Keith Minnick of York, PA, and her cat Butler. She was predeceased by a daughter, Carolyn E. Minnick, a granddaughter, Emily Benson, a great grandson, Austin Slaybaugh, 3 daughters-in-law; Susan Slaybaugh, Lynda Slaybaugh, Sharon Slaybaugh, a granddaughter-in-law, Christie Slaybaugh, 4 brothers, and 4 sisters; Mabel Reed, Albert Speelman, Sonny Speelman, Helen Reynolds, Arnold Speelman, Clair Speelman, Shirley Knight, and Delores Speelman.Considering, Catherine did not like to wear black even to funeral services, the family requested attendees wear more colorful attire during the services. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 14, 2024 at 2:00 PM from Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, PA with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg, PA. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and on Friday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
