Obituary: Cecelia M. Hopper

Cecelia M. Hopper, 105, entered her eternal rest on Sunday, June 15, 2025. She passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by members of her loving family. She was the wife of her loving husband, Fred, for 75 years, who passed away in 2018.

Cecelia was born in Eddyville, Nebraska, on January 28, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Conroy) Mutchie.

She was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Oxford, where she taught religious education for several years. Cecelia was a secretary for the U.S. government during World War II. After marrying Fred, they lived in the Washington, D. C. area and started their family. They moved to Pennsylvania in 1958, where they had a farm. Cecelia worked for Musselman’s Fruit Packing Company in Biglerville, starting as a secretary and later rising to the position of a purchasing agent for the company. She always considered her most important position as that of a loving wife and mother, however.

Cecelia is survived by seven children. Mary Elizabeth Malone of Coatesville, PA, Rita Hopper of Largo FL, Theresa Hopper and husband Stanley Clapp of Corbin KY, Louise McCausland and husband Steven of Canon City, CO, Monica Lefler of Salisbury, NC, Daniel Hopper and his wife Patricia Atchison of Fort Collins, CO, and Joann Riley and husband Terry of York Springs; 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two grandchildren, Todd Boyette and Mark Lefler; one brother, Luke Mutchie; three sisters, Mary Mutchie, Ursula Stander, and Joan Williams.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Carlisle St., New Oxford, PA, with Father Keith M. Carroll as celebrant. A private interment will follow at the Sunnyside Cemetery in York Springs. Online tributes and condolences can be made at monahanfuneralhome.com.
