Charlene A. Shaffer, of Carlisle, PA, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. She was born May 25, 1945, in Carlisle to the late Parker E. and Martha (Dunkle) Failor.

Charlene was a stay-at-home mom and enjoyed every minute of taking care of her kids. A caregiver at heart, she welcomed all of the neighborhood kids and would frequently cook for all. The highlights of her life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she frequently babysat for nearly everyone in the family. Charlene loved roosters and had an extensive collection. She loved animals, especially her dog, Harley. She also bred cockatiels and helped take care of bottle-fed farm animals. Charlene will be remembered for her great sense of humor.

Surviving is her loving husband of 64 years, Charlie Shaffer, Sr., of Carlisle; children, Charlie Shaffer, Jr., (Bobbi) and Donna McCreary (Charles); grandchildren, Amber (Sarah) and Reilly Shaffer; great-grandchildren, Max and Alayna Heishman, and Lucy Watkins; and brothers Jim and Eugene Failor, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Charlene was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Toby Heishman; daughter, Lory Ann Shaffer; sisters Alice Clepper, Sarah Myers, Elizabeth Barclay, Kathrine Newhouse; and brothers Parker, Harry, Paul, and Lawrence Failor.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, June 12, 2026, at 1:30 PM in the Westminster Memorial Gardens Chapel, 1159 Newville Rd, Carlisle, PA 17013 with Rev. Richard Reese officiating. A visitation will be held from 12:30 PM until the time of services, and burial will take place in the Westminster Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011. Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Mt. Holly Springs.
