He was born November 14, 1930 in York, PA and was preceded in death by his father Charles B Bender, Sr., his mother Sara Spangler Bender, his sister Nancy (Bender) Slaybaugh, and his beloved wife of 62 years, Betsy Cameron Bender.

He served on the Gettysburg School Board for 16 years and was a Board member of the Gettysburg Area Chamber of Commerce. He was an avid golfer who belonged to the Gettysburg Country Club. Charlie enjoyed reading, engraving, and watching westerns, as well as taking daily walks on the Gettysburg Battlefield. Always a true gentleman and rarely without a collared shirt, Charlie contributed greatly to the family he dearly loved and the town in which he took great pride.
Mr. Bender is survived by a daughter, Laurie Bender Reynolds and her husband David of Columbia, MD, two sons, Charles B. Bender, III and his wife Anjanette of Lancaster, PA, Jason C. Bender of Finksburg, MD and nine grandchildren.
