Obituary: Charles “Chuck” J. O’Malley

Charles J. “Chuck” O’Malley, age 93, of Gettysburg, PA, peacefully passed away at the home of his son after a brief illness on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

Born January 6, 1933, in McKeesport, PA, he was the son of the late William J. & Laura (Raible) O’Malley.

Chuck was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the United States Air Force. He was a member of Carpenters Union Local #1145 in Greenbelt, MD, for many years and served as construction foreman for the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. His memberships included VFW POST #15, American Legion Post #202, Fairfield AMVETS, Catholic War Veterans, Gettysburg Eagles, and the McSherrystown Home Association.

His kindness was infectious, and his presence could brighten the dimmest room. While he was a friend to many, his greatest joy and proudest achievement was his family. He took particular delight in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose energy and laughter brought him immeasurable happiness in his later years. He was a source of endless stories, gentle wisdom, and a living example of what it means to be a good man.

Chuck lived life fully, loved deeply, and left the world brighter than he found it. He is survived by his two sons, Charles L. O’Malley (Tammy) of Gettysburg and Gregory S. O’Malley of Fairfield, PA, three grandchildren, Brandon O’Malley, Amber Reaser and Chase O’Malley, nine great grandchildren, two sisters, Ann Travis of Olney, MD and Carol Marland of Taneytown, MD, a brother, Glenn O’Malley of Beltsville, MD and his friend and ex-wife, Darlene Rohrbaugh of Fairfield, PA. Chuck was predeceased by his brother, William Edward O’Malley.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at the Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, PA. A Viewing will take place at the funeral home one hour prior to the services. Interment with full military honors provided by the Adams County Allied Veterans will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg.
