Obituary: Charlotte Moore

Charlotte Louise Hammond Moore, 94, of Gettysburg, PA died Monday evening, December 4, 2023 at The Gardens At Gettysburg after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Born January 4, 1929 in New Market, MD, to Dawson V. Hammond and Virginia Waters Hammond. She was the wife of the late Edgar K. Moore, II who died February 26, 2008. She graduated from Union Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1950. Charlotte and Ed were married June 3, 1950, in Silver Spring, MD. They lived in Frederick, MD, Kensington, MD, and Potomac, MD. After retirement they moved to Gettysburg, PA in 1993. Charlotte worked as a RN for Dr. John Umhau’s office (family practice) in Chevy Chase, MD for over 30 years, retiring in 1991. She and Ed belonged to St. Pauls UMC in Kensington, MD and after moving to Gettysburg, they joined Gettysburg United Methodist Church. They were active members in both churches.

During her life span, she was a Brownie Scout leader when her children were growing up; belonged to Goshen Mills Chapter DAR and the Gettysburg Chapter DAR; the Gettysburg Womans Club, and AARP. She volunteered at the Gettysburg Hospital and the Soup Kitchen, and her beloved churches.

Her sister, Virginia W. Lowder, her foster brother, Carl W. Sweeney, and oldest daughter, Donna L. Bruce predeceased her. Charlotte is survived by her two daughters, Diane V. Moore and Barbara L. Michaleski (John) of Gettysburg, PA, her four granddaughters, Karen Rohrkemper (Evan) of Houston, TX, Katie Mueller (Jeff) of Maineville, OH, Jennifer Driggers (Chris) of Glennville, GA, and Sarah Bonham (Steven) of Statesboro, GA, and her 10 great grandchildren, Alissa, Laura Lynn, and Catherine Driggers, Dean and Madelynn Bonham, Joseph, Aleli (“Ali”), and Kaia Rohrkemper, and Ryan and Elaina Mueller.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, 11:00 am (lite lunch after) at Gettysburg United Methodist Church 30 West High St., Gettysburg, PA, Rev. Rick Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11am., room next to sanctuary. Burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, MD, 3pm. Funeral arrangements by Monahan Funeral Home.
