David Henry Bowersox, Sr., age 95, of Aspers, PA, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at his home. He was born February 19, 1931, in Mifflinburg, PA, the son of the late Freeman George & Alma Smull Bowersox.
David is survived by his wife Sally Gotshall Bowersox. He was predeceased by his first wife, Rosemary Bowersox, who died in 1996.
David was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Gettysburg, PA, for seventy-five years. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army from 1948-1952. David received the Bronze Star and other service medals during his tour of duty. After his discharge, he joined the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, 211th E.I.S., at Fort Indiantown Gap, where he served for 27 years and retired as a Tech Sgt. in 1991. Due to the fact that he quit school to join the Army, he did not graduate from high school, but he did receive his diploma from Penn Valley School District in 2011.
David retired from the New Cumberland Army Depot in 1988, where he was chief of the Communication Division.
He was a life member of the Heidlersburg Fire Company, Knights of Columbus #2539, VFW Post #15, American Legion Post #202 and the Pennsylvania Sheriff’s Association.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Susan Gotshall McCauslin (Brian) of Biglerville, PA and Karen Gotshall Shafer (Kenneth) of Arendtsville, PA, two granddaughters, Kassandra Shafer of Arendtsville, PA and Marlaina McCauslin Parks (Tico) of Clinton Township, MI, great granddaughter, Diana Parks, step-granddaughters, Dana Crum and Danielle Martin, step-grandson, Dan Shafer (Ashley) and multiple step-great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 25 West High St., Gettysburg, PA, with Fr. Michael Pray, Celebrant. Interment will follow the Mass in the Gettysburg National Cemetery Annex with full military honors provided by the Adams County Allied Veterans. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 10:00-11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 465 Table Rock Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
