It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Dennis Lee Hardman, 90, of Gettysburg, Pa., who passed away peacefully at Gettysburg Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in 1934 in Greenstone, Pennsylvania, Dennis lived a life defined by devotion—to his family, his community, and his country.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Dennis served his nation with honor and integrity. After his service, he began a long and dedicated career as a machinist with Mack Truck in Hagerstown, Maryland, where his hard work, precision, and reliability earned the respect of all who worked alongside him.

But above all, Dennis was a family man. He and his beloved wife, Darlene, who shared 64 years of marriage, worked to grow their family and life together. His greatest joy came from spending time with his wife, Darlene, their children, and grandchildren—whom he cherished beyond measure. They would do anything for them, and their love and presence were constants in their lives. Whether coaching, cheering, or simply being there, Dennis never missed a moment.

He was a familiar face on the sidelines and in the stands—coaching Little League and Teener League baseball, and enthusiastically supporting his children and grandchildren in whatever sports team they participated in or artistic endeavor they pursued. In coaching, Dennis touched countless young lives, teaching not only the game but also the value of teamwork, perseverance, and respect.

Dennis was described by many whom he met as a bright, happy, and kind person whose smile could light up any room. He had an easy laugh, a generous heart, and a gift for making others feel valued and cared for. He was also a wise and trusted confidant, always ready with sound advice or a listening ear. His positivity, patience, and quiet strength guided those around him, and he will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was a good and loving man—a husband, father, grandfather, coach, and friend whose impact will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Dennis is survived by two sons; Timothy L. Hardman and his wife Charlotte of Gettysburg, Christopher A. Hardman and his fiancee, Anne DiMarco of Gettysburg, PA, eight grandchildren; Kramer Hardman and his wife Tiana, Graham Hardman, Mary Tessa Hardman and her husband Samir, Nora Hardman and her husband Nicolas, Bryce Hardman, Ashlee Dillon, Kyle Hardman, Corey Hardman and his wife Kristen, two great grandchildren; Gwen Hardman and Hailee Dillon, and a sister, Patricia Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Hardman, brother Larry Hardman, and his sister, Shirley Harbaugh.

A celebration of Dennis’s life will be held Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 9 a.m. for family and friends to gather together at St. James Lutheran Church at 109 York St. in Gettysburg Pa.

Following the service, a brunch will be provided by St. James Care Givers for whom we are truly grateful.

Though he is gone from our sight, his bright spirit, wise counsel, and boundless love will remain with us always.
