Donald Ray McKinnon, 71, of Gettysburg, PA, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026.
Born December 21, 1954, in Montgomery County, MD, he was the son of the late Vivian Wayne and Lillian L. (Wyatt) McKinnon.
Donald served in the US Army and Army Reserves for over 20 years. He was a graduate of Rockville (MD) High School. He worked for over 28 years at DalTile in Gettysburg and then went on to work at the Gettysburg Foundation. He was a very active member of the Amvets, where he served as Commander for the Department of Maryland Amvets for two years. He served in Post 7 and the Dept. of MD Honor Guard for 22 years. In addition, he was a member of the American Legion and VFW of Emmitsburg, MD.
Don is survived by his sister, Beunah McKinnon and her wife Karen Stitely, of Gettysburg, PA, Edward W. McKinnon and his wife Mary C., of Biglerville, PA, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Allen McKinnon, and his sister, Susan Y. Widener.
A Celebration of Don’s life will be held from 1-4 PM, Sunday, August 9, 2026 at the Thurmont Amvets Post 7, 26 Apples Church Rd., Thurmont, MD 21788. In addition, there will be a memorial service at 10:30 AM, Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA 17325, with a visitation time one hour prior to the service.
