Dorothy E. Carey, age 98, of Gettysburg, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Transitions Healthcare, Gettysburg.

She was the daughter of the late Charles J. and Naomi J. (Hummelbaugh) Miller. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Lester D. Carey.

Dorothy is survived by her son Wayne L. Carey of Triadelphia, WV.

She attended Arendtsville Vocational High School and was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arendtsville.

In addition to her son, she is survived by a daughter-in-law, Judy V. Carey; three grandchildren: Michael D. Carey (wife Denise), Melissa A. Carey, and Angela E. Carey; two great-grandchildren: Tyler A. Carey and Dylan D. Carey. Dorothy was predeceased by a son, Daniel A. Carey, a sister, Edith K. Shaffer, six brothers, Wilson J., C. Eugene, Edwin H, Dale K., Donald C., and E. Marlin, an infant sister, Christine A., and an infant brother, Wandell L.
