Dorothy E. (Gruver) Hoffheins, 91, of Abbottstown, died at home on October 20, 2026. She was the wife of the late Gerald L. Hoffheins, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage before his death in 2018.
Born April 15, 1935, in Thomasville, she was a daughter of the late Melvin C. and Catherine E. (Brillhart) Gruver. Hoffheins graduated from Spring Grove Area High School in 1954. She worked as a seamstress for Bernstein and Abbottstown Garment Company before joining Pfaltzgraff, where she later retired.
She enjoyed gardening, farm work, sewing, playing cards, traveling with her sisters, cooking and baking. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Abbottstown. Survivors include her children Debora Emig, Brenda Hoffheins, Glenda Hoffheins, and Gregory Hoffheins and his wife, Debra; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A viewing is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. funeral service at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 E. Water St., Abbottstown. Burial is to follow in the church cemetery.
