Edward B. McCartney (Ed), 90, and Marjorie A. McCartney (Margie), 87, both formerly of Gettysburg, PA, died Friday, August 15, 2025, as a result of a car accident.
Ed was born May 29, 1935, in Steelton, PA, the son of the late William Berlin McCartney and Dorothea Mae (Anderson) McCartney. Margie was born May 10, 1938, in Gettysburg, PA, the daughter of the late Charles Albert Wert and Marguerite (Naugle) Wert. They married in Harrisburg, PA, on March 22, 1957.

Ed retired in 2003 after dedicating most of his professional life to the mechanical contracting business. He spent 25 years with McClure Company of Harrisburg, PA, serving in various roles, including Estimator, Project Manager, and Chief Industrial Estimator. Ed was a United States Marine and fought in the Korean War. He was very active in 14 bodies of the Masonic Order and was a Past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge 1045. Ed was also an ordained Deacon and Elder of the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church.
Margie retired in 1990 from 15 years in food service for the Gettysburg Area School District. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family over the years. She enjoyed watching all of her grandchildren grow up and welcomed the addition of two new great-grandchildren in the past 5 years. Margie cultivated friends like flowers, holding both friend and family relationships in high regard. Everyone enjoyed being her friend because of her upbeat personality.
Ed and Margie are survived by their three children, Kim Fraley of Bethlehem, PA, Donna McCartney and her husband Jack Hogencamp of Norristown, PA, and Chad McCartney and his wife Andrea of Dillsburg, PA, their grandchildren Christopher Fraley and his wife Rosemary, Amy Fraley and her husband Michael Ruepp, and Liam McCartney, and their great grandchildren Christian and Isabella Fraley. Ed was preceded in death by his two brothers, William McCartney and Robert McCartney, and his sister, Verna (Babe) Bruckhart. Margie is survived by her brother Terry Wert and his wife Sharon of Ocean Isle Beach, NC. Margie was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Wert.
A Memorial Service for the McCartneys will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 2, 202,5 at the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church, 208 Baltimore Street, Gettysburg, PA. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
