Obituary: Esther N. Buohl

Esther N. Buohl, 99, Gettysburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Transitions Healthcare.

She was born December 4, 1925, in Adams County, PA, the daughter of the late Earl and Cynthia Elizabeth Baker Sponseller. She was predeceased by her husband W. Earl Buohl, her daughter, June E. Guise Kauffman and her son, Harold E. Guise.

Esther was a former member of the Two Taverns Lutheran Church. She was a 1944 graduate of Gettysburg High School. She and her husband owned and operated Earl’s Inn on Route 15 until their retirement in 1980. During her retirement, she enjoyed her homemaking, sugar cookies for her family, tending flowers in the summertime, and hosting family for 4th of July parties. Esther and June spent countless hours working on crossword puzzles together. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. And was always working on crossword puzzles.

Mrs. Buohl is survived by her grandchildren; Kimberly Guise of Gettysburg, PA, Pamela Redding and her husband Brian of Orrtanna, PA, Patrick L. Kauffman of Gettysburg, PA, great grandchildren; Dalton Kuntz, Grace Redding, Morgan Redding, great, great grandchild Delia Hobbs, two sisters; Nancy Sheely and Charlotte Slaybaugh. She was predeceased by a brother and sisters; Dorothy Shellman, Ruth Groft, Ellsworth Sponseller, Anna Sterner, and Helen Huff.

Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 2:30 PM at Evergreen Cemetery. There will be a viewing at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM—online obituary and condolences available at monahanfuneralhome.com.
