Gene was pleased to have served his Country during WWII, having been part of the 181st Signal Depot Company at Fort Polk and Fort Holabird. Prior to the war, he helped insulate LSTâs in Pittsburgh. He never tired of telling the stories. He carried on his business, Goetz & Sons Hardwood Flooring with characteristic integrity. He was instrumental in the building of the new St. Maryâs Church in Fairfield, PA; the stunning woodwork is exemplary of his skills. He was a member of that St. Maryâs Parish where he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Menâs Club.
He truly cherished his family and said of each new direction in life âItâs a learning proposition.â In addition to his children, his 34 grandchildren and his 25 great-grandchildren (at last count), his sisters, brother, in-laws, and many nieces and nephews will miss him tremendously.
We are grateful to our friends at the VNA of Hanover and Spring Grove Hospice, who provided excellent care and loving service when we needed it. We would appreciate that any memorial gifts be given to them at 440 North Madison Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
Mass will be celebrated in honor of Geneâs life on Tuesday, April 30th at St. Maryâs Catholic Church, 256 Tract Road, Fairfield, PA at 11:00AM with Father Peter DiTomasso as celebrant. The family will greet friends following the ceremony. A private interment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver
