Obituary: Freddie ‘Fred’ Young



Freddie Leon Young “Fred” went home to be with the Lord, with his family by his side, Monday, September 25, 2023 at the Waynesboro Hospital.

Born May 9, 1943 in Graceham, MD, he was the son of the late Leon Clyde “Pete’ and Reba Elizabeth (Weller) Young.

He is survived by his wife Ethel Marie Young, they had a great life spending over 60 together. He also leaves behind, his daughter, Sharon Marie Kuykendall, of Fairfield, his brother, Terry Gene Young and his wife Mona, three sisters, Linda Davis and her husband Howard, Beverly Myers, Tina Ohler and her husband Joey, as well as many other, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Nathan Solomon Miller.

Freddie retired as a carpenter from Heritage Builders in Gaithersburg, MD where he worked for over 40 years. After retiring he worked side various carpentry jobs the rest of his life. His hobbies included racing and raising pigeons. He belonged to the CCC Pigeon Club of Westminster, MD, in addition he was a life member of the South Mountain Rod & Gun Club, the Gun Club of Smithsburg, MD, the American Legion in Cascade, MD, the Amvets Club, of Fairfield, and the Blue Ridge Sportsmen’s Club. He was also an avid Harley Davidson motorcycle rider and owned his first Harley at the age of 17 years old and owned one his entire life until a few years ago.

Funeral services for Fred will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at Monahan Funeral Home, 27 E. Main St., Fairfield, PA. Burial will be in Fairfield Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of the service Wednesday afternoon at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at monahanfuneralhome.com.
