It is with great sadness and gratitude that we announce the passing of Georgia D. Freas, who left this world on her 82nd birthday, Friday, June 19. She was a loving and devoted wife whose love and inspiration shaped the lives of her husband and children.
She built a life centered on family, friends, farms, and horses. She was always busy, and her home was a place of warmth and comfort. She was a loving and wonderful mother and created unforgettable memories by raising two children with consistency and generosity. She loved big family meals, holiday traditions, celebrations, anniversaries, and the countless everyday moments that now mean so much to her family.
During her life she had been a graduate of Mount Saint Mary’s Academy in Elizabeth, New Jersey, attended Moravian University, where she met and married her husband, drove a school bus, became a realtor, worked off and on in retail with B. Altman & Co., Bloomingdales and Lowes in Hanover, was active in 4H and Brownies, helped run three horse farms in Connecticut, Virginia and Gone Away Farm in Gettysburg for 25 years, where she bred, raised and trained hunt horses, was an avid horse woman and foxhunter and was awarded colors in both The Fairfax Hunt (Virginia) and The Plum Run Hunt (Pennsylvania).
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, A. Owen Freas, III, who resides in Orrtanna, her daughter Gigi Pereira (nee Virginia Marion Freas) of Tierra Verde, Florida, and her son George of Fredericksburg, Virginia.
This Haiku poem is dedicated to her memory:
“A gay stream tinkles
Her glad heart rings like a bell
Awash with vibrancy”
