Georgine Marie Baranski (née Hensel), 87, passed away peacefully in Gettysburg on April 25, 2026.
Georgine was born in Strasburg, PA, on February 25, 1939, but she made her home in Gettysburg, PA, for over 60 years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her cherished family; sons Edward J. Baranski Jr. and spouse Constance, and Marc H. Baranski and spouse Lynn, daughter Anne Baranski Perkins and spouse Brian, her grandchildren, Edward J. Baranski III (Joe), Erica Baranski Brower and spouse Darby, Marc H. Baranski Jr., Josephine L. Baranski (Josie), and by her great-grandchildren Hudson Cade Brower and Reece Caton Brower. Georgine was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Joseph Baranski, on July 13th, 2025, and daughter Allison M. Baranski on November 6th, 2016.
Growing up in Strasburg, Georgine developed a lifelong love of music and played the piano, organ, and oboe. She attended High School in Lancaster, PA, and then went to Beaver College (now Arcadia University), graduating in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. After college, she moved to Philadelphia, where she worked as a research technician at Jefferson Medical College. While there, she contributed to the American Heart Association’s research into the first heart-lung machine. It was on that project that she met Edward Baranski, who would become the love of her life. They were married in 1963 and shared over 60 years together until Edward’s passing last year. They became part of the Gettysburg Community in 1964, when Edward became a General Surgeon with the Gettysburg (WellSpan) Hospital.
Together, Georgine and Edward became a big part of the Gettysburg community, raised their family, and formed many lasting friendships. She was active with the Gettysburg Hospital Auxiliary, served as Chair of the Gettysburg Hospital Ball, and volunteered with the Gettysburg Hospital Thrift Shop. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and led a Children of the American Revolution chapter. She was a constant presence in her children’s lives, attending their sports and other activities whenever possible. Later, she took on a role with the Pennsylvania State University Fruit Labs in Biglerville.
Above all, Georgine will be remembered for the quiet strength and devotion that defined her life. Her love for her family, her enduring partnership with Edward, and her unshakable spirit were the foundation of a life filled with purpose. Through her dedication to her family, she leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to guide and inspire all of us who were fortunate enough to have known her.
There will be a Celebration of Life service at a later date to be determined.
