Obituary: Harry Jack Decker



Harry A. “Jack” Decker, 80, Littlestown, PA passed away suddenly on Monday February 3, 2025 at his home./ppHe was born on March 26, 1944 in Baltimore, MD the son of the late Albert J. and Catherine Decker, Sr. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Linda Hutson Decker./ppMr. Decker started his early career shucking oysters in the Inner Harbor of Baltimore and later worked at a paper mill in Maryland. But in 1963 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for 22 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry “Blue Spaders” earning a Purple Heart and other prominent medals. Following his service he returned to Gettysburg where he was employed at Gettysburg Tours as a driver and tour guide, later he worked at Adams Electric as a dispatcher and meter reader. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards, as well as spending time with his grandchildren and family. He was a very dedicated and devoted husband and father./ppIn addition to his wife, Jack is survived by a daughter, Julie Gida of Littlestown, PA, two grandchildren; Shannon Gida and Jeremiah Miller of Littlestown, PA, Sean Gida of Littlestown, PA, four great grandchildren: Dimitri So, Aurora So, Sebastian Miller and Rose Gida, step-grandson; Daniel So of Hanover, PA, and multiple nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters; Paul J. Decker, Albert Decker, Jr., Edward Decker, Catherine Bolander, Shirley Mowery, Mary Bobblitz, Jean Decker and Eleanor Titus./ppFuneral services will be held Friday, February 7, 2025 at 11:00 AM from Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, PA. Interment with full military honors will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
