Obituary: Hazel M. (Brown) Hicks

Hazel M. Hicks, 90, of Littlestown, Pennsylvania, formerly of Bluefield, West Virginia, passed away on October 2, 2025, at Gettysburg Hospital. She was born on May 29, 1935 to the late Raymond and Mary (Broyles) Brown.

Hazel grew up in Oakvale, West Virginia, where she graduated from Oakvale High School. She married Paul (Sonny) Hicks on October 17, 1955, and together raised two daughters. She worked in Washington, DC after high school and then at Maidenform in Princeton, WV, but she was mainly a homemaker. After moving to Maryland in the 1970s, she worked at Malco Plastics in Owings Mills for 14 years before retiring. She enjoyed helping her husband build and run Quail Valley Golf Course in Littlestown, Pennsylvania. She had a tremendous love for her family and especially loved her role as Nan Nan to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hazel loved spending time with family, feeding and watching wild birds, flower gardening, family pets, reading romance and autobiography books. She enjoyed helping others.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynn Hempey (Matt) and Sheila Garst (Brad); three granddaughters: Erika Kuzio (Basil), Dani Pickett (DJ), and Sami Conley (Eric); and five great-grandchildren: Gwen Kuzio, Basil Kuzio III, Levi Pickett, Garrett Pickett, and Raegan Pickett. She is survived by her brothers, T.W. Brown (Shirley) and Jackie Brown (Pat). In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Bonnie Forbes, Janice Ferguson, Nellie Ann Brown, and brother, Arthur Brown.

The family will receive friends at Littles Funeral Home in Littlestown, PA, on Tuesday, October 7th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton, WV, on Saturday, October 11th, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV.
