Howard R. Dorsey, Jr., 76, of Orrtanna, PA, passed away Wednesday evening, January 14, 2026, at Gettysburg Hospital.
Born October 29, 1949, in Silver Spring, Maryland, he was the son of the late Howard R. Dorsey, Sr. and Estelle (Cooper) Dorsey.
Howard was the devoted husband of Janie L. (Green) Dorsey of Orrtanna, with whom he shared 56 beautiful years of marriage.
He worked as a welder for 35 years at Schindler Elevator in Gettysburg. After retirement, Howard continued serving his community as a Fitness Director and Personal Trainer at the YMCA, and as an Assistant Coach for the Gettysburg High School football team.
Howard was deeply passionate about mentoring young people. He believed in discipline, teamwork, accountability, and character, and he poured those values into every life he touched.
In addition to his wife, Janie, Howard is survived by his four children: Tony L. Dorsey (Kristi), of York, PA; Raymond D. Dorsey (Jamie), of Chambersburg, PA; Dwayne Dorsey (Miranda), of Matthews, NC; and Kimberly R. Dorsey (Rasheen), of Chester, VA. He is also survived by 28 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and his sister Peggy Craven of Silver Spring, MD. Howard was preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Cooper and Janet Budd.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Gettysburg Foursquare Church, 328 West Middle Street, Gettysburg, PA 17325. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the church.
