Born July 15, 1930 in Menallen Township, PA to the late Sterling E. Barbour and C. Ruth (Raffensperger) Barbour.
In addition to her parents, Ida is predeceased by her beloved husband, Gene E. Staub who passed away in 2010; her brothers, J. Kenneth Barbour, Cameron Barbour and H. William Barbour; and her sister, Dorothy Warren.
She is survived by her children, Rebecca Gonzalez (Marcel), and Wesley E. Staub; her grandchildren, Marcel F. Gonzalez, Lena Gonzalez, Forrest Staub and Samantha Staub; her two sisters-in-law Dorothy Barbour and Joan Railing; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ida was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Arendtsville, PA where she participated in many different roles including, serving in the altar guild, being a part of the social ministry, a member of the golden rule Sunday school class, teaching a Sunday School class, and serving as the church secretary. She loved her church family very much. She worked as a secretary at Biglerville High School for over 20 years and prior to that worked as a lab tech at Knouse Foods for 11 years. She was proud of the fact that she baked the very first pie using Lucky Leaf pie filling while working in the lab there. In her spare time Ida would volunteer for organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Reach for Recovery, and the American Cancer Society.
Ida loved spending time with her family and preparing delicious holiday and family meals for them all. She was known to give her grandchildren homemade chocolate cake for breakfast! She really loved planting her flowers every Spring and tending to them as well as the family vegetable gardens that provided many delicious meals. As a young lady she enjoyed playing softball in the local women’s softball league.
She worked part time on the neighbors’ farm (Pitzers) for many years where lifetime family-like bonds were made with all members of both families. It was hard work but there were many laughs created by her amazing sense of humor.
