Obituary: James E. Wiley



ames E. Wiley, Sr. age 85, of Gettysburg, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and family at home on Saturday, September 23, 2023. Born September 18, 1938 in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late William & Dorothy (Brown) Wiley. Jim is survived by his wife of sixty three years, Sylvia J. (Binkele) Wiley. He graduated from Lancaster McCaskey High School in 1956 and enlisted and served proudly with the United States Marine Corps until 1959. Jim owned and operated the Gettysburg Glass Co. for 21 years. He was involved in the Gettysburg Community serving with the Gettysburg Little League in the late 1960’s and 1970’s as a coach. manager and later as an umpire for both Little League and the Community Softball League. Jim’s hobbies included playing golf and building bird houses. He was a member of American Legion Post #202 in Gettysburg. In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by three children, Jeanette Davidson (John) of Palm City, FL, James E. Wiley, Jr. (Beverly Layne) of Westminster, MD and Steven Wiley (Kelly) of Gettysburg, eight grandchildren, Shannon Wahl (Chris), Stepfanie Lescalleet (Scott), Ryan Davidson (Stacey), Alex Wiley (Stephanie), Jillian Wiley, Rachel Kane (Tyler), Danielle Wiley and James C. Wiley, five great grandchildren, Madison and Owen Wahl, Lucy Lescalleet, Samuel and Henry Wiley and his sister, June Hoover (Timothy) of Mechanicsburg, PA. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg with Rev. Stephen Herr, officiating. Interment will follow the services in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home from 9:30-11:00 AM.
