Born on May 12, 1963 in Killeen, Texas to Lincoln S. Smeltzer and Margaret J. (Daily) Smeltzer.
James is survived by his loving wife, Sandra L. Sample, cherished daughters, Evelyn G. Smeltzer and Mara L. Smeltzer, as well as his devoted parents Margaret J and Lincoln S. Smeltzer.
James, known as Jim to his friends, obtained his undergraduate degree from Dickinson College and a masters degree from Boston University in international relations and political science. He served in the United States Air Force. Jim traveled throughout the world as a foreign service officer with the State Department. He retired from federal service in 2020 and most recently worked at BAE and drove Uber. He was active in his church and a friend to all.
There will be a memorial service at Gettysburg Foursquare Church on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 11am.
