Born January 6, 1939 in Boston, MA she was the daughter of the late Charles William and Helen Walsh (Hogan) Sheehan. She was the wife of William R. Smith, of Gettysburg to whom she was married to 36 years.
Mrs. Smith was a native of the Hyde Park community in Boston. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Gettysburg, PA. She was a Veteran of the United States Army where she was in personnel management of law enforcement. Her academic career was extensive, beginning in St. Raphaelâs Grammar School, in Hyde Park, on to Notre Dame Academy in Roxbury, MA, then Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA and finally earning a Masterâs from Trinity College, Washington, DC.
In addition to her husband, Jane is survived by two step-children, Ralph A. Smith, of Severn, MD, Christine M. Ferguson, of Elizabethtown, KY, three grandchildren, a brother, Laurence E. Sheehan, of Wellesley, MA, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four siblings, Mary Sheehan Riopel, Rev. William R. Sheehan, Sister Veronica M. Sheehan, SCD, Helen Sheehan Lafond.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM, Friday, November 10, 2023 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 25 W. High St., Gettysburg, PA. Burial will be at a future time in Arlington National Cemetery. The family will receive friends 9:30 AM until the Mass Friday morning at the church.
